If you’re looking to streamline your IT services, you need to learn how to use IT scripts and automation effectively. And if you want to be as efficient as possible when using Windows scripts, you need to learn how to reduce the amount of time that you spend creating scripts.
That’s why Atera’s shared script library is so powerful. You can find 1,000+ scripts that people in our community have created and tested, so you’re not constantly needing to write scripts from scratch!
Wondering how these IT scripts can help you? IT automation scripts are a powerful way to reduce the manual tasks that can bog down IT departments and MSPs. It doesn’t take an expert to use one of our top 25 most popular IT automation scripts.
Once you start using automated scripts, you’ll quickly see just how useful they can be. By automating repetitive or time-consuming tasks, scripts can help you save time and reduce the risk of human error. Taking advantage of useful Windows scripts is one of the best ways to streamline your IT department. Here are 25 scripts from the Atera community that could be very useful for you and your IT operations.
How do you write an automation script?
In the past, Windows automation scripting was a complex task that required extensive coding knowledge and experience. But today, with Agentic AI tools in the IT space like Atera’s AI Copilot, automated scripting is as easy as explaining what you’d like to do in plain language and clicking a few buttons. We’ll go over more with Copilot in a second!Start by looking through our Shared Script Library to see if the script already exists.

If the task you want to automate is already in the Shared Script Library, all you have to do is click Clone.
If not, you can use Copilot to autonomously create the script through our Copilot button in the bottom right corner. Copilot is an Agentic AI assistant that thinks, reasons, and acts as an extra set of hands for your IT team, 100% autonomously.
In the context of scripting, Copilot can autonomously generate automation scripts from simple text commands, so you don’t need to be a PowerShell expert to get results. For example, if Anydesk released an update and you wanted to automatically bring all devices on your network up to date, you could tell Copilot: “Write me a script to update Anydesk software across all devices”.

Instead of spending hours writing and testing your own IT automation scripts, take advantage of our tried-and-tested Shared script Library! Or, if you’re looking to do something more unique, allow Copilot to autonomously write the script for you.
How do you run an automation script?
Once you’ve created the script, you’re ready to run it within your network. Running an IT script within Atera is as simple as navigating to Devices > Manage > Run Script under the desired device, and then clicking on Run under the script you want to execute from the Shared Script Library. Or, if it’s a script that you’ve created with Copilot or written yourself, you’ll find it under My Scripts.

If you’re left with questions about how to run a script, we’ll walk you through the entire process in our script support doc.
